| EC3.1 Applicability of vocational training to needs of local residents and employers | |
Vocational
training delivery locally is predominantly work-based and there are
several good examples of local companies which offer ‘guided
training’ towards a wide range of National Vocational Qualifications
(NVQs). Guided training requires tutor or mentor input as opposed to
merely that of employers or supervisors. Most gaps in NVQ training
provision occur in the engineering and manual skills sectors, particularly
car and agricultural engineering, plumbing and electrical companies,
where specialist workshop facilities are needed.
The
nearest College of Further Education at Plymouth is relatively
accessible from the southern part of the area. From the northern
part, however, access becomes more difficult and this is
a problem held in common with several neighbouring Market
Town areas. |
