When completed in 2006, the Devon Coast to Coast Cycle Route will be one of the most scenic off-road cycle tourism routes anywhere in the UK and possibly Europe too. It will be easily accessible from the Plymouth ferry terminal and railway station. As cyclists can carry fewer provisions and travel less distance than visitors in cars, they are likely to spend more in the local area.

The outcome of a bid for Cornwall and Tamar Valley mine workings to be designated as a World Heritage Site should be known in 2005.
