Visitors will have different expectations and needs, and there needs to be a consensus about what kinds of tourism should be catered for. One model emerging in the Tamar Valley is based on leading people to discover local enterprises, places of interest and quality produce, while discouraging car-based day trips to popular attractions around Devon and Cornwall which can be far from relaxing and which tend to destroy the tranquillity which other visitors value.

In view of the importance of understanding the visitor market, it is suggested that new research is commissioned and a local tourism strategy developed.
