| EC6.7 Broadband delivery | |
Although many subscribers to Tavistock and Yelverton telephone exchange now have the opportunity to use Broadband, most people living or working in the surrounding rural area will still be too remote for a Broadband connection until provided with a non-fixed wire solution such as wireless. Broadband4Devon is a £12.5M project in the Objective 2 areas of Devon (including the Tavistock area) and has the following key partners: Devon County Council, Business Link, SWERDA, Devon and Cornwall Business Council, representatives of higher and further education, and representatives of technology suppliers. The project aims to: stimulate the take up of broadband by demonstrating the relevance of information and communications technology as a key tool for businesses; and to extend the provision of Broadband to presently unserved areas. There will be a support package averaging £1000 per business to enable each business to offset the costs of upgrading to Broadband and/or using Broadband as a business tool. Realising all the benefits of this project will require co-ordinated responses from local communities; something which the Tavistock area will need to consider. |
