Most of the Tavistock area lies within a designated Area of Great Landscape Value, the Tamar Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or the Dartmoor National Park. The stretch of countryside around Lamerton and Chillaton, which carries no formal designation, also contains outstanding scenery as well as magnificent views to and from the hills of Dartmoor. Apart from the landscape’s excellent visual amenity, the accompanying tranquillity and gentle pace of life are highly prized.
