| EN3.5 Impact of town on surrounding countryside | |
On the southern edge, Tavistock has become merged with Whitchurch but, generally, the town is quite well contained and does not straggle out into the countryside. However, the layout and design of some 20th century developments sometimes makes for a less coherent journey from countryside to town centre than might be desirable. On the northern approach to town, the new industrial estate at Pitts Cleave makes a significant impact on the surrounding countryside but this may mellow as screening becomes more established. Tavistock and many villages are served by overhead electricity and the resulting wirescape can impact adversely on rural landscapes. |
