A survey of residents in Tavistock North completed in March 2003 showed that, of those who replied (280 out of 2200), 47% think that there should be more done for young people. 36% would like to see more mini and junior soccer pitches; 35% want better evening transport; 34% a skatepark; 28% a cyber café; 25% an out-of-town night club; 25% want financial help getting to work and 12% want village mini cyber cafes. Researches
into the need for a youth centre showed that 57% of young people come
to Tavistock to meet friends, of which 53% use the Meadows, 52% use
cafes and 35% pubs and clubs. There is no street youth work being undertaken
and on Friday evenings there may be over 300 young people in the Meadows
with their safety posing a major concern. |
