| S3.4 Ease of access to non-emergency hospital services | |
Access is largely dictated
by travel requirements and depends on individual circumstances. There
is no public transport provision to Tavistock Hospital and the bus station
is about half a mile away. There is disabled access into the hospital.
The Primary Care Trust is aiming to make better use of Tavistock Hospital for non-emergency procedures. It has a 24-hour Minor Injury Unit and casualties are treated almost immediately. One the
Primary Care Trust’s core aims is to provide services
as close as possible to a patient’s home, while having regard
for cost efficiency. All patients should be able to see a health professional
within 24 hours and a GP within 48 hours. |
