Tavistock & District Council for Voluntary Services (CVS) represents 209 local groups across a wide spread of interests.

A report for the Learning and Skills Council, produced in January 2003, identified 477 voluntary and community organisations in West Devon. The single most important field of work was welfare/social care (24%), then education/research (12%), culture/recreation (11%), economic/community development (7%), environment, housing/homeless and working with community groups (all at 4%) and health (2%)
