There are several regular events having the potential to draw the whole community together which include:
Tavistock Carnival – held in second week in July
Balloon Fiesta – August Bank Holiday. (2003 was the biggest ever in the South West)
Goosey Fair – Travelling fair held second Wednesday in October
Dickensian Evening (late night shopping) – early December

Most villages have a round of annual events which might include a summer fair and Christmas pantomime. There is no agricultural show in the area, although the established ones at Chagford, Okehampton and Launceston are relatively accessible, as are the Devon and Cornwall shows, all held annually.

In the past, one-off events such as a Son-et-Lumiere in Bedford Square or music in the park have proved to be very popular.

Currently, there is no single co-ordinated diary of events although this would be a great help with planning and publicity, especially to develop the tourism market.

‘Have another Dickensian type evening in spring or early autumn.’
