There are several arts-based community groups throughout the area, some very active but others staging an event perhaps only annually. High profile names include the Tavistock Group of Artists, Aune Head Arts, Ten Tors Orchestra, Kelly Choral Society and Villages in Action.

Without undertaking a dedicated survey, the total membership of all such groups (including church and school groups) is difficult to judge but it could be as much as 10% of the population. As one indication, there are 1500 Friends of the Wharf of whom 150 are active volunteers in managing the Wharf.
